The End Of the World

A flash sparked across the sky
Crashed down to earth
Tore a hole so deep and wide
Left its mark
Both you and I
We sat there thinking
Was this the end of the world
Was this the end of it all
Was if far enough away
That it couldn't touch us
Or would it creep closer
And swallow us up
Cause it feels like we could go on
And close up that wound outside us
Yeah it seems like we could save the world
Refuse to listen to those who deride us
Yeah I think if we sit here much longer
We just might miss our chance
But if we stand up and act like we're stronger
We might get to see those stars dance
And it feels like the end of the world
Yeah but it looks like we could still save it
It's a lot for one boy and one girl
Looks like we'll just have to brave it.

  3. I love your poems b/c I always imagine that these are lyrics and you have the tune in mind. I wish I knew what it was!

    1. Thank you so much Stacie! I've started writing them lyrically intentionally in the last few weeks and I've got tunes in mind for some, and others I need to work on. But I think I'll eventually record and post 'em. :)

  5. Love it Linda! That last line is fantastic. And I love the idea of you putting your work to music and recording it - I would totally buy that album!

  6. Is it weird that I heard this as a song in my head? Very rhythmic! Loved it!

    1. Nope! I've been writing them more lyrically recently. I'm glad you picked up on that!

  8. I felt the song here, too. Very cool! I must admit that I'm really excited to see that process unfold -- I've been around original music before, but never through the creation stages, just the performances.

    1. Thanks Courtenay. I'm thinking about eventually doing that sort of thing on the blog; showing the process of writing/recording.

  9. I've got to say, I pictured it as a song too. A very good one, at that!

  11. Not to be redundant, but I could hear a song in this as well. :) I love the emotion you captured in this piece!
